Main results
- The annual variation rate of the CPI for the month of December stood at 6.5%, one point above that registered in November.
- The annual rate of core inflation increased four tenths, to 2.1%.
- The monthly variation of the general index is 1.2%.
- The Harmonized Consumer Price Index (IPCA) places its annual rate at 6.6%, more than one point higher than that of the previous month.
Annual evolution of consumer prices
The annual rate of the general Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the month of December was 6.5%, one point above that registered the previous month and the highest since May 1992.
The groups with the greatest influence on the increase in the annual rate are:
- Housing , whose annual variation of 23.3%, six and a half points above that registered in November, is caused by the increase in electricity prices , higher this month than in 2020.
It is also worth noting, although in the opposite direction, the drop in heating oil prices , which rose in 2020.
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages , which placed its rate at 5.0%, almost two points higher than the previous month, due to price increases in most of its components. Among them, those of legumes and vegetables stand out , which fell in December 2020, and those of bread and cereals and meat , higher this month than in 2020.
- Hotels, cafes and restaurants , which increased its variation six tenths, to 3.1%, as a result of increases in the prices of accommodation services , which fell in 2020, and of restaurants , higher this month than in December of 2020.
On the other hand, among the groups with a negative influence, the following stand out:
- Transportation , with a variation of 10.9%, more than two and a half points lower than the previous month, caused by the decrease in the prices of fuels and lubricants for personal transport , compared to the rise registered in 2020 .
